buffyfest ornaments

Why yes, I am a nerd! Here are the ornaments I made for the Buffyfest ornament swap. They're little books written by Andrew that tell the story of Spike.

Of course I will post photos of the ornaments I receive later. So far I've gotten some shrinky dinks ornaments that are so adorable!

This is my third swap with this group, and my first two were made of polymer clay. I'm not sure I can top these, though. And I'm not sure I should...

I love the comic book store

Despite the fact that I had never entered a comic book store until Buffy Season 8, I find that I feel very at home there. The little comic book store in my town is owned and run by one guy named Jim, who is sweet as pie.

I was very pleased to take some stuff over there for consignment/display - stake earrings, Firefly necklace, slayer ornament, and of course the vampire slayer penguin.

I'm finding that I love the comic books, and I'm having to hold myself back from buying more. I'm only allowing myself to buy the Buffy and Angel related ones, but I can't help wondering - do I need more superheroes in my life?

Visit and support your local little stores. Their proprietors love what they do!

You want to make Buffy ornaments, I know you do...

From the Buffyfest blog: "The purpose of this event is to craft 4-6 ornaments with a Whedonverse theme and send them to 4-6 different recipients. In return you will receive 4-6 completely different handmade ornaments..."

Clicky the picture to read about and join the Whedonverse ornament swap. It's fun. I'm not sure what I'm making this year - possibly something from Dollhouse. Or not. Hmmm. Anyway, there's still a day or two to sign up, so come join the fun.

ornament swaps, part 2

I participated in two holiday ornament swaps this season, one with PCAGOE members and one with Buffyfest Bloggers. The post with the ornaments I created for the swaps is here.

Here are the ornaments I have received in return so far:

Image transfer ornament by SCDiva - looks great on the tree!

Personalized gingerbread lady by artbylilin. So adorable!

Hehe, you have to know Firefly to get this one. Anybody recognize this object?

Awesome mica shift technique on this Buffy ornament by valeriebeads. I'm thinking this might get turned into a necklace after Christmas.

And a little framed silhouette ornament. This one also came with an alternate panel - Dr. Horrible instead of Buffy. How fun is that!

ornament swaps

I participated in two holiday ornament swaps this season.

The first was with members of my online polymer clay guild, PCAGOE. I made bell-like ornaments, thanks to a simple origami pattern from a friend. Here's a nice tutorial on how to fold these. And here's a good, wordy explanation of how to fold them.

After the folding, I cheated and used clear tape to hold the bell shut at the top, after putting a ribbon through from the bottom to the top. Then it was just a matter of making a cane, mixing some clay colors and carefully covering the sides of the bell. I used a paper pattern to cut the clay sheets into the right shapes. I'm thinking, although I didn't have any on me at the time, a bit of liquid Sculpey would make the assembling process easier.

---------------

The second swap was organized by the Buffyfest bloggers. I just can't resist the pull of Buffy...

I had bunches of ideas for this one, including decoupage ornaments using comic book pages and actually creating the Buffy characters sculpted or as egg ornaments. But in the end I went with something a little less time consuming. I hope people will still like them. They are made with polymer clay tombstone-y beads with the letters stamped in with rubber stamps and then antiqued with a bit of paint. They're finished off with a polymer clay "stake" and matching glass and other beads. Into each generation a slayer is born...

ornaments

These are not crab rangoons. But that's what they remind me of.

This is folded cardstock, which then gets covered with thin sheets of polymer clay and baked.

Voila! Fabulous, lightweight ornaments.

Owl Ornament give-away on Ametista's blog!

Want to win an owl like this one? Of course you do.

Visit Ametista's blog here and follow the directions. The drawing will be at the end of the month. Of course, if you want your very own owl and you just can't wait, there are two in my etsy shop, and there's lots of clay in my basement!

the goose is getting fat

"Make gingerbread people ornaments" has been on my to-do list for a while. As usual, I had a few ideas in mind of how to go about this project, and the result is nothing like any of those ideas. These are made by hand-rolling "snakes" of polymer clay. They have buttons and faces on both sides and holes in their heads for hanging. Next I'd like to try scenting them and making a set of teeny tiny ones.

more new stuff

It's time for ornaments. After pondering what I wanted to make this year, I finally decided to start with plastic easter eggs made into animals. So far I have 5 penguins, 2 pigs and a cow. I'd like to do some chicks, bluebirds and owls as well. But I gotta admit, I'm tempted to just make a million more penguins because they're so much fun.
