I smell a rat

I don't get this. They just sit there, the two of them, staring and staring. I've checked the cabinets and under the oven, and I don't see anything resembling a current or former rodent. But still, they sit...

better late than never

I made this Darth Vader penguin shaker ornament for a friend. He's tiny - about 2.5 inches tall.

quote of the week

Said by 8 year old nephew upon driving past a large post office:

"Look! It's the mailman factory!"

I love this. So stinkin' cute.

This is by etsy seller shayaaron, and the whole shop is filled with miniature adorableness.

I don't understand the appeal of texting. That is all.

12:05

Went to the midnight showing of Harry Potter, and it was fun. It's absolutely gorgeous, and I love that this one focuses on Buffy, Willow and Xander Harry, Ron and Hermione. Then again, I couldn't help but miss my favorites, Snape and Ginny, who didn't get as much screen time. The bummer of it all is that I fell asleep for the last 15 minutes. How sad is that? But I'm sure to go see it again, so it's all good.

Can these three get any more adorable?

what do you mean it's not time for christmas?

Collage cards made of cut-up used cards from previous years.
I find these very fun and therapeutic to make.

douglas wambaugh, appearing for the defendant

I watched this - season one of Picket Fences. Adorable and fabulous! This was a 90's show about a family in the small town of Rome, Wisconsin. First of all, there should be more shows set in Wisconsin, right? Are there any others besides this one and That 70s Show?

Picket Fences isn't overly realistic, plot-wise. For instance, one of the main characters, the doctor who has her own practice and is a surgeon, seems to treat everyone and everything, from surgery to meds to psychology. Then again, she's a very cool character. And then there's the elementary-school-aged kid who plays the trombone a little too well.

This show explores issues wonderfully and intelligently, though, and the characters have some depth. I find the character of Douglas Wambaugh, played by Fyvush Finkel, absolutely delightful. He marches into the courtroom regularly to defend the downtrodden, misunderstand and disciminated-against. I also love the grouchy judge, played by Ray Walston. And now I'm wondering, though I don't remember it happening, if this show might have helped me become the liberal thinker that I am. I mean, something had to affect me that way, right? Hmmm.

I'm looking forward to watching the next 3 seasons, but at the moment the netflix queue has Northern Exposure, Mad Men and Charmed next. We'll see.

one year I had the little prince

I want this. And I'm probaby going to get it. Because I cannot resist. Every year I get myself a calendar. Once it was the Little Prince, once when pickins were slim it was South Park. I've had a witchy one, a Coca-Cola one and I think one of some other TV show that I can't remember at the moment. But for the past few years, it's been Buffy. Just can't resist. Don't you love the simple joy of turning over the next month of a cool calendar?

in a pizza treasury

Pizza penguin is in an etsy treasury. Treasuries on etsy can be "curated" by anyone with an etsy account, and basically they show a group of items that the maker enjoys. Often they have a theme (like pizza) or a color scheme. They're fun. I stopped making them when the system changed - there used to be a limited number - now there are gazillions of them. Still, they're fun to peruse.

She's not Buffy, but...

I watched this. A lot.

I have now watched all three seasons of Veronica Mars 4 times - and the first time was only about a month ago, I think. I have a Veronica Mars problem! It was the first non-supernatural show I'd watched and liked in a while. I love love love Logan as a character. He's just so damaged and fragile and full of potential. This show has neat lighting, great characters and great story arcs. I wish there were more than 3 seasons.

Other happy things about this show:
Allyson Hannigan shows up as Logan's sister.
Token, er I mean, Wallace, is adorable.
The dad/daughter relationship just makes me happy.

remember kate and allie?

I watched this.

Kate and Allie! Remember them? I so love Netflix.

1984 to 1989. I was in middle and high school. Blast from the past. Look how cute those kids are! Look at their haircuts! This show is just sweet, and I'm looking forward to watching the rest. Currently, I'm in season 2. Seeing Jane Curtin makes me want to watch 3rd Rock from the Sun, too.

it's a yam sham

Thanksgiving, Buffy style...

Buffy: Yeah. I guess I never really thought about it that way. With mom at aunt Darlene's this year, I'm not getting a Thanksgiving. Maybe it's just as well.
Anya: Well, I think that's a shame. I love a ritual sacrifice.
Buffy: It's not really a one of those.
Anya: To commemorate a past event, you kill and eat an animal. It's a ritual sacrifice, with pie.

To celebrate (and take any chance I can get to combine Buffy and crafting), I made this.

spices

I want this.

I so very muchly desire a spice rack of some sort to replace the piles of mismatched shapes and sizes and expiration dates currently residing in 3 separate cupboards.

This one from the Lovely Little Wood Company is made of awesome - what a cool idea! There is nothing that cannot be made cooler by the use of magnets. (Conversely, there is nothing that cannot be made even worse by adding whistling. Remember that.)

what's the point without lex?

I watched this.

The first 8 seasons of Smallville. I loved the first 3 seasons to pieces. But then it just got weirder and weirder. And then season 8 happened. No. More. Lex. What, I ask you, is the point of Superman with no Lex Luthor? I'm very sad.

cards, lots

I made this.

I went simple with the cards this year, relatively speaking. I made a bunch in non-traditional colors and some cool black and whites. I'm itching to make more, but I have other things to do...

I'm in the process of uploading them to thepaperwhisperer on etsy.

I love this!

This is a bracelet by febrarose on etsy. Amazing. Actually the whole shop is amazing.

life is just a bowl of, you know

I made this.

Cherries again this year, lots of them, about 300. They are supertasty and will be even better in another few weeks. I think the dollar store tins are adorable and really great deal. I used all Wilbur chocolate this year, milk and dark. I've got a bunch more things to make before Christmas, but some are perishable and need to wait until closer to the time. Some edible stuff, some not. I'm looking forward to making time to make things!

I blogged this.

I've been inspired to start up my blog again. Yeah, we'll see how long that lasts. I have a plan. But so did the Cylons, and we all know how that ended.

So let's start small, with an "I don't get this" post. Here's what I don't get. I don't get the cowl trend. Seriously, what's the point of an oversized turtleneck thing that covers half your face but has no torso-warming attachment. Plus, they're goofy-looking. Just wear a scarf, I say.
