polymer clay show and tell: earrings
I love earrings. I'm always wanting to buy them. Unfortunately, my skin reacts to pretty much any earrings I've ever worn, but I can usually manage a few hours of wearing them at least. Polymer clay is a great medium for earrings because it's so lightweight - you can go large and still be able to hold your head up.
What a fabulous idea!

I love anything citrus, especially oranges. These are adorable!

Two more of my favorite things - rainbows and cake!
-----------------
Polymer clay elegance - cool!

Hehe, it only took me two pages of etsy search to find lots of earrings I love.

Michelles Charm World
My friend Michelle from the EART etsy team makes funky, chunky jewelry out of all sorts of crazy stuff - legos, barbie shoes, food miniatures... all colorful and fun. Her shop is called MichellesCharmWorld.
Right now she's having a give-away for a $15 gift certificate, and all you have to do is comment on this blog post.
My favorites of hers are the button bracelets, like this one:
I also really dig the Alice in Wonderland ring:
Good luck with your give-away, Michelle!

I love the comic book store
Despite the fact that I had never entered a comic book store until Buffy Season 8, I find that I feel very at home there. The little comic book store in my town is owned and run by one guy named Jim, who is sweet as pie.

I was very pleased to take some stuff over there for consignment/display - stake earrings, Firefly necklace, slayer ornament, and of course the vampire slayer penguin.

I'm finding that I love the comic books, and I'm having to hold myself back from buying more. I'm only allowing myself to buy the Buffy and Angel related ones, but I can't help wondering - do I need more superheroes in my life?

Visit and support your local little stores. Their proprietors love what they do!

back to school
We're having a little blog-a-thon at EART this lovely Thursday, and the topic is back to school. Well, first of all, I'd like to go back to school! Art school, music school, teaching school... I'm not fussy. But, yeah, OK, that's really not practical right now. So how am I thinking about back to school? Well, hopefully my voice and piano students are all coming back and getting serious. Well, maybe not too serious, but schedules are smoother once the school year begins. I'm a little melancholy this time around, having done some teaching this summer and feeling a bit of missing the planning and excitement of starting a new year of teaching. But honestly, I don't think I'd have the stamina to survive a week at this point in my life!
So, what have I got in my etsy shop for back to school?
Wear a little bit of summer into the new school year.
And, you gotta know what time it is to get to school on time, right?

new necklaces in browns
A friend brought me a set of beautiful wooden beads from a vacation a few months ago, and they inspired me to pile up all my brown beads and start stringing.

Both pieces have beads of wood, glass and handmade polymer clay cane work Both can definitely be described as chunky, but lightweight. The clasps are simple gold-tone toggles that are easy to use.

Both are listed in my etsy shop.

challenge time
The July challenge theme at my etsy team, (EART - the eclectic artisans team) is desert. So I took the opportunity to use my polymer clay faux turquoise beads to make a necklace with a desert/southwest feel.

The voting takes place here at our team blog. All you have to do is click next to your favorite entry in the sidebar. There are only three entries this time, but they are three pretty fabulous pieces (if I do say so myself...)
Thanks for your support!

bracelet

Cherie at cheriedesigns on etsy is a chef and jewelry maker. This is a bracelet she made using a couple of beads from my beads sampler. I love seeing what other people create with the beads! And I love the mix of polymer clay beads with stones, gems, crystals, etc. Collage jewelry is my favorite.

challenge time
Yep, it's time for the PCAGOE monthly challenge again. This month's theme is ACEOs. What's that?? Here's the wiki article about them. And here's a search on etsy - just 22,000 entries or so...

My entry is made of polymer clay, using canework flowers in a spring theme. It comes with a matching pair of earrings.

This is one of four prize packs that will be given to randomly selected voters. See the rest of the prizes and vote here at the pcagoe site. Thanks for your support!

sand and sea and artfire
So I suppose it's not really the right time of year for this, but it was when I made this set. And I'm finally getting around to sharing it.

Instead of etsy, I have this one listed at artfire. Artfire is a new online venue, still in the beta stage. It seems to have potential and may become a great site in a year or two. Or not. Who knows?
There are bunches of these new etsy wannabe sites popping up. Most are terrible and won't last; a few seem to have potential. I did set up on one other site, which shall remain nameless, and didn't stay. After setting up with all my photos, etc. looking good, I got a message from the admins there saying that my "banner could be better," which is fine -- it's their site. But then they sent me SIX emails of a banner they had created to help me out. It was a blurry photo of someone else's products with my words in the wrong font, also blurry. And did I mention that they sent it to me 6 times? I laughed and decided against pursuing that one!

new ACEOs
I made some new ACEOs. ACEO stands for "art cards, editions and originals." They measure 2.5 by 3.5 inches. Other than the size, there are no rules really, so these things are made out of anything and everything. They're a neat little sample of an artist's work. Mine are, obviously, made of polymer clay.

And there's a twist to these new ones -- these come with matching earrings that hang right on the card.

These would make great Valentine's Day gifts -- a little art AND a little jewelry in one.

This one is Firefly-inspired, with the quote When your miracle gets here... I watched Serenity the other night. What a great movie! Next, I'd like to make some items (probably pendants) with quotes from the movie. Stay tuned.
These three and my other ACEOs are on this page of my etsy shop.
