the christians and the pagans

I've been listening to the Dar Williams song, The Christians and the Pagans, and thinking about the holiday season and how it's really OK that not everyone celebrates Christmas. Given the choice, I probably wouldn't. But we all do stuff to keep the family peace, don't we? And of course there's not much work for a choral musician who doesn't do Christmas! Anyway, as generally non-religious as I am, I am somewhat fascinated by the history of holidays and the transplantation of Christian holidays on top of pagan ones.
These are goddess pendants. Could be put on necklaces, hung as ornaments or just kept as little talismans, perhaps a reminder of everything women do to keep the world turning, especially during holidays seasons!

new stuff!

A boatload of tiny holiday cards made with card stock and striped with bits of old Christmas cards. These make perfect gift tags or cards for folks at the office. They're just cute.

They fit inside these tiny handmade paper envelopes.

And a gaggle of goddesses. 13 new ones.

the magician

Here's the second card in my tarot series - major arcana #1, the magician. It measures about 7 by 10 inches and is made primarily of polymer clay with a bit of fabric, felt and wire. The magician symbolizes a person in control of his surroundings, a manipulator, someone who's able to influence his environment to suit himself. He holds the wand in his hand and has the other three suits, or elements, laid out in front of him (sword, cup and pentacle). I'm pleased with him and have already started working on the high priestess.

This weekend, I also finished another gaggle of 10 goddess pendants in all sorts of crazy colors (they're in my shop if you want to look at them) as well as my first ever pair of goddess earrings. Look how cute!

we make stuff!

My friend Mirm came over and made this jewelry set out of my Dorothy beads. I think they turned out great.

My friend Roni came over and learned basic canework. She made an egg shaker!

My sister Bird made this peach set - hat and socks for a baby. Behold the cute.

When I can't decide what to work on, I make goddesses while I'm thinking. Here's Penny, Lacey, Gretchen, Purple Rose and Rainbow.

We make stuff.
