pretty kitchen stuffs

pretty kitchen stuffs, originally uploaded by divadea.
Yep, another house post.

Some superawesome friends of ours have been getting us this Pfaltzgraff pattern for a couple of years now, and it is just so beautiful! The lamp was in my parents house for my entire life - I think it may have been a wedding present. I couldn't let them throw it out - I had to have it.

This is the cool photo from my aunt for Christmas. I put it in my kitchen. My kitchen is turning out to be a very arty place. I like it!

I'm arting up the living room

We rearranged the living room and now have some wall space to fill. I'm working on framing some more art for the other walls. This one has a local artist, one of my pieces, and etsy artists shellieart, cidtalk and jellybeans.

I heart Valentine's Day

Here are a few of my polymer clay Valentine's Day favorites from PCAGOE.

The Cupid Bot by ittybittiesforyou. Of course, you've seen these robots on my blog before. I love the robots - they're just fun. Now, if Jennifer would just get around to making Buffy robots...

The Valentine's Day walldancer by kerijoy. She's got a whole line of walldancers in varying themes and colors - all gorgeous. Check them out!

I'm pondering fonts for a new logo. Opinions?

sand and sea and artfire

So I suppose it's not really the right time of year for this, but it was when I made this set. And I'm finally getting around to sharing it.

Instead of etsy, I have this one listed at artfire. Artfire is a new online venue, still in the beta stage. It seems to have potential and may become a great site in a year or two. Or not. Who knows?

There are bunches of these new etsy wannabe sites popping up. Most are terrible and won't last; a few seem to have potential. I did set up on one other site, which shall remain nameless, and didn't stay. After setting up with all my photos, etc. looking good, I got a message from the admins there saying that my "banner could be better," which is fine -- it's their site. But then they sent me SIX emails of a banner they had created to help me out. It was a blurry photo of someone else's products with my words in the wrong font, also blurry. And did I mention that they sent it to me 6 times? I laughed and decided against pursuing that one!

new ACEOs

I made some new ACEOs. ACEO stands for "art cards, editions and originals." They measure 2.5 by 3.5 inches. Other than the size, there are no rules really, so these things are made out of anything and everything. They're a neat little sample of an artist's work. Mine are, obviously, made of polymer clay.

And there's a twist to these new ones -- these come with matching earrings that hang right on the card.

These would make great Valentine's Day gifts -- a little art AND a little jewelry in one.

This one is Firefly-inspired, with the quote When your miracle gets here... I watched Serenity the other night. What a great movie! Next, I'd like to make some items (probably pendants) with quotes from the movie. Stay tuned.

These three and my other ACEOs are on this page of my etsy shop.

the time for singing

I can't believe the new choir season has started already! Our theme at the Cumberland Singers this season is Road Trip Across America. Our concerts will be on April 17, 18 and 19. If you'd like to help us out, support the arts, you can sponsor a song here. (You can also get a sneak peek of some of the pieces we're singing...) And we're still accepting new singers, especially ones of the tenor/bass persuasion :)

-----------

Marmalade is also singing. So far, no public performances, just private events. Feel free to keep that trend going by giving me a ring. We're up for hire!

Happy inauguration day, everyone!

stamping party

We had a fun crafting party at a friend's house this weekend.

I brought clay, but ended up doing the project du jour instead, which was a calendar. The pages fit into a flipped-around CD case to make a little desk calendar. I located (read "stole") some nice textured paper and various baubles to make mine.

It was a yellow sort of day. I went for the bright yellow for the page backgrounds, and then when I did finally get out the clay, the first color I picked up was also bright yellow. Odd.

The rest of the photos are at my flickr.

PC ACEOs

Here are the ACEOs from my etsy shop. They're fun to make at only 2.5 by 3.5 inches. I'm still pondering what to make for the PCAGOE ACEO challenge. I'm working on some Firefly-themed ones, but so far they're not turning out too fabulous.

my january challenge favs

Many thanks to everyone who voted in this month's PCAGOE challenge! Here are my favorites from the 23 fabulous black and white entries.

This is VAharoni's 1600 Pennsylvania Ave NW. This piece is fascinating, striking and thought-provoking. In the days leading up to inauguration day, I can't help pondering the still formidable race and class issues in the US and wondering how things will change in my lifetime, hopefully for the better. The bottom bead is the west wing of the white house. (I won't go into my obsession with the show The West Wing in this post...) The topsy-turvy nature of the top collage is so appropriate for this moment in time. The "ribbon" (also actually made of polymer clay) adds a feminine touch, which I love. It brings balance to the piece. Wonderful piece, Valerie!

This is a necklace by irishmishly, entitled In 2009, I wish I... Here's what she wishes:

*dream* the pinkest dreams
*laugh* as if every minute is funny and joyful
*believe* that all wrong can be fixed
*love* my beloved and my friends
*smile* as if every day is a miracle
*dance* even if i do it in my own living room :)

What an inspiration! Happy new year, Iris!

christmas with the little people

We had Christmas at my parents' house on New Year's Day. The little ones had a really good time with elephants and Hess trucks and stickers. What more could a person want?

When your miracle gets here, you just pound this button once, it'll call back both shuttles.
Quotation by Wash in the Firefly episode "Out of Gas." Three pendants, all measuring around 1.75 to 2 inches. Made of polymer clay and antiqued with a bit of paint. The round one is spoken for; the other two are up for grabs.
